Notice to faculty and staff about office and academic spaces

(POSTED 2:15 p.m. ET Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2024)

Please be aware that sheltering in campus offices or academic spaces before, during or after a severe weather event is not permitted. Not all campus buildings are equipped to function as shelters, and there are no assurances that law enforcement or other university personnel will be able to assist with life safety situations at alternate locations during a severe weather event. The university will take no legal responsibility for such unauthorized sheltering on campus. Those in need of a place of refuge will be directed to the approved facility either on or off campus that are specifically designated for such emergencies.  You can find which general population shelters are open, including which shelters are pet-friendly, by checking the Leon County Emergency Information Portal at www.leoncountyfl.gov/ei for shelters in Tallahassee.
